Do you realize God wants YOU to “ask” Him for outcomes? While God is a caring Father, He has given the responsibility of prayer for experiences with Him and miracles from Him to US.

Our number one goal is to PURSUE God with our undivided and focused energies. He has revealed a way we can do this through fasting. Scripture shows us that God expects fasting will become a “normal” part of our intimacy with the Lord.

Jesus said, “Moreover, WHEN you fast...”. He said “WHEN” not “IF.” A God Who radically loves you, and has made Himself vulnerable (desiring to be known), assumes that you will SEEK Him. And because we know He is “worthy” (that His very existence commands our esteem) we worship Him in actions of pursuit. We demonstrate our love, desire and worship by simply arranging our schedules and disciplines to “follow hard” after Him.

Any goal setting during a spiritual fast has to begin with pursuing God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength (Luke 10:27). If fasting gains us nothing more than the benefit of “GIVING” to God a season of unfiltered chasing after God, for HIS benefit, it is a profoundly valid reason. God asks us to pursue Him because He is God, nothing more and nothing less. But when we pursue Him with HIS benefit in mind, we also find ourselves encountering a God that radically transforms us from the inside/out!

In preparation for a spiritual fast it is a powerful thing to preset a small series of goals that you want to achieve. As a result you will have prepared your heart to expect some things, and you will know when you have succeeded. You will have exact points to celebrate as you see your life glorifying God, and God showing up with unforgettable encounters!

To help you evaluate your needs/desires during the fast, maybe you should engage an assessment tool to put a spotlight on areas you aren’t yet aware of. We have provided one at this link www.mylifepointe.com/fast . Before you jump over to the assessment tool, it is important that you remember that no matter how many areas you NEED God’s grace in – highlighted by the assessment – that God LOVES you, God LIKES you and God is in a GOOD MOOD towards you.

If you haven't had the chance to engage the teachings and what you want from God, I encourage you to do that today. You can find the resources at www.mylifepointe.com/fast . Be sure to write down your desires, what you would like to see God do in you and through you during the fast.

Lord God, help me to keep my heart and my spirit pure before you. You want me to “ask” for outcomes when I pray and fast. So I am asking you to:

BIBLE READING:  Galatians 1 (NIV)

1 Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— 2 and all the brothers and sisters[a] with me,To the churches in Galatia:

3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse! 10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

11 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. 13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. 14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. 15 But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being. 17 I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus.

18 Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Cephas[b] and stayed with him fifteen days. 19 I saw none of the other apostles—only James, the Lord’s brother. 20 I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie. 21 Then I went to Syria and Cilicia. 22 I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. 23 They only heard the report: “The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.” 24 And they praised God because of me.

My heart is being transformed, and my desires are fully after God. I present my body to God. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, Who dwells in me. I am not my own. I am bought with a price. Therefore, in the name of Jesus, I refuse to follow after fleshly impulses. Sin is no longer my master. I am a slave of God, righteousness, and holiness. The zeal of God consumes me. Every competing desire is burned up in my fiery desire for Christ. I have been baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire, and this fire burns up the lustful passions of the flesh. I live in the supernatural power of God’s grace to resist temptation. Through my relationship with Christ I am delivered from the body of this death. O’ happy, enviable, and victorious man/woman that I am. I walk in the Spirit and do not fulfill the lustful desires of the flesh. I daily bond, and have “koinonia fellowship” with Christ, abiding in Him as the Vine, and I am the branch. I am therefore bearing an abundance of fruit that abounds to God’s glory. I am possessed by the resurrected Christ; with my spirit, mind, will, emotions and body under His transcendent control. Body, settle down in Jesus name and conform to the Word of God. I mortify the desires of this body and command it to come in line with the Word of God. (Psalm 37:4-5; Romans 5-8; Romans 12:1; 1 Corinthians 6:19).
