GROUP CONVERSATION GUIDE

STORY:  Man With Stomach Problems

  • Did that really happen?
  • Was the outcome a coincidence, or was it causal to the activated authority?
  • Did God want Pastor to be a mere puppet for God's predetermined plans, or was God requiring a partnership to accomplish His plans?

REVIEW QUESTION AGAIN:

Does God use human agency to fulfill His purposes?

OR

Does God arbitrarily dictate outcomes via His sovereign determination?

DOES EVERY CHRISTIAN POSSESS

THE RIGHT AND PRIVILEGE

OF SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY?

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY?

  • The responsibility to rightfully govern and enforce justice.

WHAT DO WE HAVE AUTHORITY OVER?

Ask the question, “What did Jesus demonstrate authority over?”

  • Demons
  • Inanimate objects (Fig tree)
  • Sickness
  • Weather (Jesus spoke to the wind)
  • Protection (I have power to lay my life down and take it up again)
  • Material resources (fish with coins, upper rooms, donkeys, fish and loaves, wine)

DELEGATIONS OF AUTHORITY THROUGH REDEMPTION:

  1. THE GREAT COMMISSION
  2. THE KINGDOM
  3. THE GRACE OF GOD
  4. RAISED TO SIT WITH JESUS
  5. THE NAME OF JESUS
  6. THE WORD OF GOD
  7. THE HOLY SPIRIT

THE HOLY SPIRIT AND POWER

ACTS 1:8 NKJV (Jesus said) But you shall receive POWER when the HOLY SPIRIT has come UPON YOU; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

THERE IS A DEFINITE RELATIONSHIP

BETWEEN AUTHORITY AND POWER.

POWER WITHOUT AUTHORITY PRODUCES CHAOS.

JESUS AND THE HOLY SPIRIT POWER

LUKE 4:16-21 NKJV So He (Jesus) came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah (ISAIAH 61:1-3). And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18 "The SPIRIT OF THE LORD [is] UPON ME, Because He has ANOINTED ME To PREACH the gospel to [the] poor; He has sent Me to HEAL the brokenhearted, To PROCLAIM LIBERTY to [the] captives And RECOVERY of sight to [the] blind, To SET AT LIBERTY those who are oppressed; 19 To PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD." 20 Then He closed the book, and gave [it] back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

ACTS 10:38 NKJV (Peter preached) …how God ANOINTED Jesus of Nazareth with the HOLY SPIRIT and with POWER, who went about DOING GOOD and HEALING all who were OPPRESSED by the devil, for GOD WAS WITH HIM.

WE ARE ANOINTED

2 CORINTHIANS 1:21 NKJV Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has ANOINTED US [is] God…

1 JOHN 2:20 NKJV But YOU have an ANOINTING from the Holy One, and you know all things.

GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Take a few moments to discuss your answers to these questions with the Group.

ICE BREAKER

What’s on your bucket list?

MY MEMOIR STORIES

IMPORTANT:  If the Group would like to continue telling one Memoir Story per week until they are completed, that might allow for a more congruent transition. Please be sensitive to the Science of Freedom content and discussion. It is important that our people are exposed to the possibilities in their potential that this content will provide. Please take no more than 20-25 minutes for the Memoir to leave time for the rest of the content below.

MEMOIR: PREPARING TO TELL MY STORY (Scope Timeline) worksheet to help you think through your story. You can download the SCOPE TIMELINE WORKSHEET at the linkThere is a longer version of the worksheet, that gives an extra step to dig deeper into your story, which can be downloaded at LONG VERSION WORKSHEET (RECOMMENDED)You can also watch the WRAP UP video from last week that explains how to use the worksheet. Each person's Memoir should be 10-15 minutes long.

QUESTIONS

  1. After watching this session’s video, what is your biggest takeaway, “ah ha” moment, or challenging thought? Why?
  2. Pastor Patrick opens the session with a story of ministering healing to a man who had ulcers. Have you ever been prompted by the Holy Spirit to use spiritual authority? If so, what was it like?
  3. What feelings or thoughts do you have when you consider that the anointing of the Holy Spirit is in and on you to execute spiritual authority? Describe what it means to you?

SESSION 8 - WRAP UP

This is a 5-10 minute section for MOVING FORWARDGOING DEEPER, use of worksheets and periodic church-wide announcements.

MOVE FORWARD

Receive the challenge to “move forward” by applying what was learned this week.

SUGGESTIONS:

  1. IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, PREPARE TO TELL YOUR STORY, your MEMOIR, to the rest of us over the next few weeks. Use the MY MEMOIR: PREPARING TO TELL MY STORY (Scope Timeline) worksheet to help you think through your story. You can download the SCOPE TIMELINE WORKSHEETThere is a longer version of the worksheet, that gives an extra step to dig deeper into your story, which can be downloaded at LONG VERSION WORKSHEET (RECOMMENDED)
  2. PRAY FOR GROUP MEMBER - Pray for at least one person in the Group. Try to identify someone who hasn't been prayed for, or given an encouraging Scripture. Don't worry about feeling inadequate as a prayer. No one feels like they are professional prayers, at least not when they look into eyes of the Almighty God. Praying the Scriptures over people is the best way to learn how to pray effectively. Simply find a Scripture, put the person's name in the text, and pray those words out loud. Then ask the Lord to help you think of things to say to Him about them that would help their lives.
  3. ASK FOR A SCRIPTURE WORD - Ask God to give you a Scripture to give them to encourage, comfort and edify them. You can Google search "God's Promises" and find a plethora of appropriate texts. Look for one that seems to give you a spark of energy as you think about the person you have been praying for.
  4. DELIVER THE WORD TO THEM - Then send them an email, text or phone call to encourage them. This is how the Holy Spirit works in our lives. As you practice these movements you will expand your own capacity with God, all while giving people much needed hope and strength.

GOING DEEPER

Encouragement to engage the FULL WORKSHOP SEMESTER experience. While this is not required, nor is the Group discussions connected to the full workshop, it is an option for everyone.

STORY:  PASTOR GETTING A JOB PROMOTION

REVIEW PREVIOUS SESSIONS:

Does God use human agency to fulfill His purposes?

OR

Does God arbitrarily dictate outcomes via His sovereign determination?

DOES EVERY CHRISTIAN POSSESS

THE RIGHT AND PRIVILEGE

OF SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY?

GOD AND HIS WORD ARE ONE - JESUS IS THE WORD

JOHN 1:1, 14 NKJV In the beginning was THE WORD, and THE WORD was with God, and THE WORD was God. ... 14 And THE WORD became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

INCARNATION – When we embody the Word of God.

All that God IS, has been compressed into His Word.

GOD CREATED THE WORLDS WITH HIS WORD

Hebrews 11:3 NKJV By faith we understand that the WORLDS WERE FRAMED by the WORD OF GOD, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

  • God SAID... - Genesis 1:3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26, 29

GOD PUTS HIS WORD/AUTHORITY IN MOUTH OF HIS PEOPLE - GOD FULFILLS HIS WORD - PROPHECY

JEREMIAH – BIO - Jer 1:5- was when Jeremiah was probably 20 years old.  He lived to 70-80.

Jeremiah 1:4-12 NKJV Then the WORD OF THE LORD came to me, saying:  5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” 6 Then said I: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” 7 But the Lord said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and WHATEVER I COMMAND YOU, YOU SHALL SPEAK. 8 Do not be afraid of their faces, for I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord. 9 Then the Lord put forth His hand and TOUCHED MY MOUTH, and the Lord said to me:  “Behold, I have put MY WORDS IN YOUR MOUTH. 10 See, I have this day set you OVER THE NATIONS and OVER THE KINGDOMS, to ROOT OUT and to PULL DOWN, to DESTROY and to THROW DOWN, to BUILD and to PLANT.” 11 Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.” 12 Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am ready to PERFORM MY WORD.”

JEREMIAH 1:12 AMP Then said the Lord to me, You have seen well, for I am alert and active, WATCHING OVER MY WORD TO PERFORM IT.

  • VS 8-9 God delivers us by putting His Word in our mouths

THE WORD IN MY MOUTH

EPHESIANS 6:11-18 NKJV Put on the WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places]. 13 Therefore take up the WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is THE WORD OF GOD; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

HEBREWS 4:12 NKJV For THE WORD OF GOD [is] living and powerful, and sharper than any TWO-EDGED SWORD (GREEK – Distomos – two mouthed), piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

REVELATION 1:13, 16 NKJV …and in the midst of the seven lampstands [One] like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. ... 16 He had in His right hand seven stars, OUT OF HIS MOUTH went a SHARP TWO-EDGED SWORD, and His countenance [was] like the sun shining in its strength.

NATURAL THINKING VS GOD THINKING

  • “It is impossible.” // “With God, all things are possible (Luke 1:37) “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God” (Luke 18:27)
  • “I am too tired.” // “Come to Me...I will give you rest. Take My yoke ...and you will fine rest” (Matthew 11:28-29)
  • “No one loves me.” // “God so loved the world...” (John 3:16) “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, with loving kindness I have loved you” (Jeremiah 31:3)
  • “I am too weak to go on.” // “My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (1 Corinthians 12:9)
  • “I cannot figure this out.” // “I will direct your steps” (Proverbs 20:24)
  • “I cannot do it.” // “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13)
  • “I am not able.” // “God is able to make all grace abound” (2 Corinthians 9:8)
  • “It is not worth it.” // God will make it worth it (Romans 8:28)
  • “I cannot forgive myself.” // “There is...now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1) “If we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9)
  • “I cannot make it through this.” // He will supply all your need  (Philippians 4:19)
  • “I am afraid.” // “I have not given you a spirit of fear but love, power & a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7)
  • “I am worried/frustrated.” // “Cast all your care on Him” (1 Peter 5:7)
  • “I am lonely.” // “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20) “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5)

JOHN 14:12-14 KJV Verily, verily, I say unto you, HE THAT BELIEVETH ON ME, the works that I do shall HE DO ALSO; and GREATER WORKS than these shall he do; BECAUSE I GO UNTO MY FATHER. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ASK IN MY NAME, that will I do, that the FATHER MAY BE GLORIFIED(God is glorified when we use His authority) in the Son. 14 If ye shall ASK (enforcing justice, demanding as Jesus’ representation) ANY THING in MY NAMEI WILL DO IT.

MORE EXCELLENT NAME

PHILIPPIANS 2:9-11 NKJV 9 Therefore God also has HIGHLY EXALTED HIM and given Him the NAME WHICH IS ABOVE EVERY NAME, 10 that AT THE NAME OF JESUS every KNEE SHOULD BOW, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and [that] EVERY TONGUE SHOULD CONFESS that JESUS CHRIST [IS] LORDTO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER

HEBREWS 1:4 NKJV …[Jesus] having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained A MORE EXCELLENT NAME than they.

NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES

EPHESIANS 1:20-23 NKJV …which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and SEATED [HIM] AT HIS RIGHT HAND in the heavenly [places], 21 FAR ABOVE all PRINCIPALITY and POWER (exousia – authority) and MIGHT(dynamis – power) and DOMINION (kyriotes – governments, rulers), AND EVERY NAME THAT IS NAMED, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all [things] UNDER HIS FEET, and gave Him [to be] HEAD OVER ALL [THINGS] to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

SALVATION IN THE NAME

ACTS 2:16, 21 NKJV (Peter said) But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ... 21 And it shall come to pass [That] WHOEVER calls on the NAME OF THE LORD Shall be SAVED.'

MIRACLE-HEALING IN THE NAME

ACTS 3:2, 6-8, 11-12, 16 NKJV And a certain MAN LAME from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; ... 6 Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth, RISE UP AND WALK." 7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted [him] up, and immediately his FEET AND ANKLE BONES RECEIVED STRENGTH. 8 So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them--walking, leaping, and praising God. ... 11 Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon's, greatly amazed. 12 So when Peter saw [it], he responded to the people: "Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently AT US, as though by OUR OWN POWER or GODLINESS we had made this man walk? ... 16 "And HIS NAME, through FAITH IN HIS NAME, has MADE THIS MAN STRONG, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which [comes] through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

ACTS 4:7-8, 10, 12 NKJV And when they (rulers, elders and scribes) had set them (Peter and John) in the midst, they asked, "By what POWER or by what NAME have you done this?" 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: ... 10 "let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the NAME OF JESUS Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. ... 12 "Nor is there SALVATION in any other, for there is NO OTHER NAME under heaven given among men by which we must be SAVED."

STORY:  PASTOR’S MOM PRAYING FOR HIS DAD IN A HELICOPTER

REVIEW OF PREVIOUS SESSIONS

BIG IDEA QUESTION AGAIN:

Does God use human agency to fulfill His purposes,

OR does God arbitrarily dictate outcomes via His sovereign determination?

DEFINE SOVEREIGNTY:

God can do whatever He wants, whenever He wants,

without being accountable to anyone.

CONSIDER THE QUESTION:

If God delegated His rule on earth to His people,

and His people are delinquent to those responsibilities,

how much pain and sorrow have we unduly endured,

and how much of our understanding of God has been skewed?

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY?

The responsibility to rightfully govern and enforce justice.

QUESTIONS

  1. After watching this session’s video, what is your biggest takeaway, “ah ha” moment, or challenging thought? Why?
  2. Pastor Patrick opens the session with a story of his Mother praying protection around his Dad. Did God use human agency to fulfill His purposes, or did God already have a sovereign predetermination of what would happen? Did Pastor’s Mom simply play a “puppet roll”, or did her activation of spiritual authority change an outcome?
  3. Seats tell a story. Think of a time when a seat told you, or those around you, a story. What story did that seat tell you?
  4. What feelings or thoughts do you have when you consider that you have been “seated” together with Christ? Describe what it means to you?

SESSION 5 - WRAP UP

QUESTIONS

  • Does such activation of spiritual authority REALLY AFFECT changes and outcomes?
  • WOULD IT all have worked out anyway?
  • How do we really KNOW if spiritual authority is causal? How do we know it isn’t just a COINCIDENCE?
  • If we DON’T ACTIVATE spiritual authority WILL WE be living under the reign of a fallen world, and victims to its degeneration?

THE SAME QUESTIONS WOULD APPLY TO...

  • PRAYERS - Do our prayers have a direct impact on outcomes? OR, Are our prayers simply a way to defer to God’s predetermined and arbitrary “will?”
  • EVANGELISM - Does our evangelism efforts have a direct impact on the salvation of sinner’s hearts? OR, Does God already have it all controlled and our efforts are merely an act of submission to God, having no direct impact at all?
  • HANDS LAYING / MIRACLE HEALINGS - Can we lay hands on the sick and have effective management of the miracle healings? OR, Is it more like playing the lottery… if we lay hands on someone that God has predetermined to heal they are healed, if NOT they are not? We are playing against the odds.
  • THE NAME OF JESUS – Does the name of Jesus give us expansive and effective authority over circumstances, demons, deadly attacks and more? OR, Is the name of Jesus simply a way to nurture the humility of our heart before God as we accept whatever happens next, as a show of God’s command?
  • DEMONS AND DEVILS – Do Christians have expansive and effective authority over demons and devils? OR, Are demons simply playing out God’s will in the earth, making God the real manager of all demonic action?

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY?

SHORT DEFINITION:

The responsibility to rightfully govern and enforce justice.

7 STAGE TRANSFERENCE OF AUTHORITY

  1. GOD GAVE MANKIND AUTHORITY OVER THE EARTH AT CREATION
  2. ADAM SINNED, SURRENDERING TO DEATH AND SATAN
  3. SATAN LEGALLY BECAME THE GOD/RULER OF THE EARTH
  4. JESUS’S OBEDIENCE/INHERITANCE QUALIFIED HIM FOR THE ORIGINAL AUTHORITY GIVEN TO ADAM
  5. JESUS IS ANOINTED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
  6. JESUS RESTORES ALL AUTHORITY AT THE CROSS AND RESURRECTION
  7. JESUS DELEGATES THE AUTHORITY TO BELIEVERS

THE GREAT COMMISSION

COMMISSION DEFINITION:

  • The act of committing or entrusting a person, group, etc., with supervisory power or authority;
  • Authority granted for a particular action or function;
  • Delegation of business;
  • Body of persons charged with authority.

MATTHEW 28:18-20 NKJV And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “ALL AUTHORITY has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 GO therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

MARK 16:15-20 NKJV And He (Jesus) said to them, "GO into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 "And THESE SIGNS will follow those who believe: In MY NAME they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." 19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the LORD WORKING WITH [THEM] and CONFIRMING THE WORD through the accompanying SIGNS. Amen."

OTHER COMMISSION REFERENCES

LUKE 24:45-49 NKJV And He (Jesus) opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. 46 Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 "and that repentance and remission of sins SHOULD BE PREACHED IN HIS NAME to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 "And you are WITNESSES of these things. 49 "Behold, I send THE PROMISE OF MY FATHER upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are ENDUED WITH POWER from on high."

JOHN 20:21-23 NKJV So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! AS THE FATHER HAS SENT MEI ALSO SEND YOU." 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on [them], and said to them, "RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT. 23 "IF YOU forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the [sins] of any, they are retained."

ACTS 1:3-5, 8 NKJV … to whom (apostles) He (Jesus) also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during FORTY DAYS and speaking of the things pertaining to the KINGDOM OF GOD. 4 And being assembled together with [them], He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the PROMISE OF THE FATHER, "which," [He said], "you have heard from Me; 5 "for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT not many days from now." ... 8 "But you shall RECEIVE POWER when the HOLY SPIRIT has come upon you; and you shall be WITNESSES to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

GROUP CONVERSATION GUIDE

SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY IN REDEMPTION

RECAP:  WHAT IS SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY?

SHORT DEFINITION:

The responsibility to rightfully govern and enforce justice.

LONG DEFINITION:

A God-given endowment,

a permanent provision and responsibility of jurisdiction,

to rightfully govern and enforce justice,

aligned with God’s purposes.

RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY:

Where responsibility is given, there must be associated authority.

And authority is given, there must be associated responsibility.

The two are inseparable.

SCENARIO ILLUSTRATED:

From the time you were young, you had vocational, or ministerial dreams. Overtime you worked through the self-validation issues and have come to a conviction that God has put various life-dreams in your heart. These dreams were of you fulfilling something, or doing something significant. However, you have witnessed the regression of these dreams coming to pass. Every time you take a step forward it seems that you take nine backwards.

How are you to interpret this scenario? What is God’s responsibility? What is your responsibility? What are you supposed to do?

  1. Do you abdicate all responsibility to God; after all He is sovereign and in absolute control of the subatomic details of your life? Do you delegate up to God and deflect any responsibility? (Cessationist)
  2. Do you ask God for a time-expiring authority, a gift of the Holy Spirit, that will give you temporary ability to supernaturally change the circumstances? (Charismatic-Sovereignist)
  3. Do you establish your conviction in Redemption, knowing that Jesus purchased for the believer to have permanent authority, to execute God’s will and Kingdom in this earth? When it looks like circumstances refuse to change, do you stand in your place and enforce God’s will, refusing to back down? (Redemptionist)

CONSIDER THE QUESTION:

If God delegated His rule on earth to His people,

and His people are delinquent to those responsibilities,

how much pain and sorrow have we unduly endured,

and how much of our understanding of God has been skewed?

TODAY’S BIG IDEA:

WHERE DID THIS AUTHORITY COME FROM?

ROMANS 13:1 NKJV …For there is NO AUTHORITY except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.

SEVEN STAGE TRANSFERENCE OF AUTHORITY

  1. GOD GAVE MANKIND AUTHORITY OVER THE EARTH AT CREATION
  2. ADAM SINNED, SURRENDERING TO DEATH AND SATAN
  3. SATAN LEGALLY BECAME THE GOD/RULER OF THE EARTH
  4. JESUS’S OBEDIENCE/INHERITANCE QUALIFIED HIM FOR THE ORIGINAL AUTHORITY GIVEN TO ADAM
  5. JESUS IS ANOINTED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
  6. JESUS RESTORES ALL AUTHORITY AT THE CROSS AND RESURRECTION
  7. JESUS DELEGATES THE AUTHORITY TO BELIEVERS

[To learn the Scriptural truths behind these seven stages of transference you are encouraged to take the FULL WORKSHOP SEMESTER.]

QUESTIONS

1.  After watching this session’s video, what is your biggest takeaway, “ah ha” moment, or challenging thought? Why?

2.  In the opening, Pastor set up a scenario of a person having God-given dreams in their heart, yet struggling to see it come to pass. How do you think people generally would approach God and the issue?

OPTIONS:

  • Would they ask/appeal to God, delegating up to Him, expecting He desires to hold the management and outcome of their child’s miracle.
  • Would they ask God to give them a gift of the Holy Spirit, a time sensitive authority, making them a temporary partner in the miracle outcome?
  • Would they activate their permanent God-delegated authority, acknowledging God has partnered with them for the management and outcome?

WHY? Why do you think people will generally respond in the option you have chosen?

3.  Describe your thoughts, feelings or impressions of the SEVEN STAGES OF TRANSFERENCE OF AUTHORITY. Have you ever thought about how Satan derived his authority? Have you ever thought about how Jesus derived his authority?

4.  How does this concept of spiritual authority influence your personal handling of human suffering, difficulties and challenges in the future? Explain why.

  4. DELIVER THE WORD TO THEM - Then send them an email, text or phone call to encourage them. This is how the Holy Spirit works in our lives. As you practice these movements you will expand your own capacity with God, all while giving people much needed hope and strength.

SESSION 01 - INTRO TO SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY?

ARRIVAL

Arrival, sharing life, munching snacks.

SESSION 1 - GROUP VIDEO

Watch 10-20 minutes of a GROUP video teaching, that correlates with the full Workshop semester topics.

GROUP CONVERSATION GUIDE

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY?

What do we mean when we say SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY?

ANSWER:  The responsibility to rightfully govern and enforce justice.

BIG IDEA:  TO ANSWER THE QUESTION

Does God use human agency to fulfill His purposes,

OR

Does God arbitrarily dictate outcomes via His sovereign determination?

DEFINE SOVEREIGNTY:

God can do whatever He wants, whenever He wants, without being accountable to anyone.

SCENARIO ILLUSTRATION

YOUR CHILD HAS 15 WARTS that have popped up on her feet, hands and face. They make it difficult for her to walk comfortably and it is embarrassing for her socially. What would be your spiritual response?

  1. Ask God for a possible miracle? Would you emphasize praying for a miracle, asking God and your prayer chain to join you in God doing this miracle? Do you immediately pray for a miracle? Think about that. What would you do? Do you pray, “God, heal her.” Or, maybe pray less boldly by submissively praying, “God, if it’s your will, heal them.” Do you emphasize the slogan, “There is power in prayer” and fire off as many prayers and people to pray as you can find? You know how it goes…something like this: “I’m going to get a bunch of friends on my Facebook to build a prayer chain and were gonna light it up baby. I’m gonna get everybody, anybody that prays, and we’re gonna get some power generated. All this because if we could get a bunch of people praying my 15 year old daughter will be healed of warts.”
  2. Ask God to give you temporary authority, a spiritual gift, to address the situation? Would you emphasize that any authority given to human agency is limited and temporary, requiring the Holy Spirit to give a time sensitive authority in partnership with you?
  3. Take spiritual authority and command power? Would you “lay hands” on your daughter, take authority over the warts, expecting the warts to hear your command while the power of the Holy Spirit is subsequently targeted upon that body for healing?

Does your prayer simply include the connection of your spirit in communion with God’s, but from that communion you activate the authority you have in Christ? Do you expect to be in such union with the mind of the Spirit that your spiritual authority enables you to point, aim and deliver God’s power? Rather than ask God to do a miracle, do you command one in Jesus’ name?

So what would you do? (Try to avoid putting yourself in a fairy tale by stretching towards the answer you think I am looking for.) Honestly, if this had happened last night, what would have been your instinctive strategy in a spiritual response?

Now understand, my goal today is not to in any way get you to stop communing with God in prayer. My goal is not to get you to even quit executing petitioned prayer. But it is to step back and to get us to look maybe at the way we are hammering nails with a boot heel.

CHALLENGING IDEAS OF YOUR GOD PROFILE

Who people believe God to be, how they frame His role in human suffering and answered prayer, will be challenged. This can be unsettling for people. If this is you, we empower you to wrestle with ideas, even to be in humble-authentic disagreement. We believe these ideas around Spiritual authority are too important to avoid the wrestle. We are so honored you are trusting us with the journey. TAKE THE WORKSHOP FOR FULL EXPERIENCE.

REAL LIFE QUESTIONS:

WORKSHOP BONUS CONTENT:

THREE VIEWS - GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY AND HUMAN AGENCY

  • REDEMPTIONIST - The one you will learn here at LifePointe, that all believer’s are PERMANENTLY endowed with SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY, as a result of Christ’s Redemptive work (thus we get the term Redemptionist), to partner with God for outcomes.
  • CHARISMATIC-SOVEREIGNIST (GIFTS) – The believer has TEMPORARY authority for outcomes, contingent on the Holy Spirit’s distribution of gifts/endowments. The word “CHARISMATIC” comes from the Greek word “CHARISMA,” which is the word translated as “MIRACLE GIFTS.” It is referenced many times in the New Testament text.
  • CESSATIONIST (CEASED) – The believer has NO jurisdiction as God controls every outcome. These are the people that have come to believe that either at the point of the production of the Bible in written form, or when the last apostle physically died (70AD), that the provisions for human’s having spiritual authority expired.

SCRIPTURE:

JOHN 14:9-13 AMP … What I (JESUS) am telling you I do not say on My own AUTHORITY … but the Father Who lives continually in Me does the (His) works (His own miracles, deeds of power). 11 … [If you cannot trust Me, at least let these works that I do in My Father’s name convince you.] 12 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father. 13 And I will do [I Myself will grant] whatever you ask in My Name [as presenting all that I Am…

MARK 16:15-18, 20 NKJV And Jesus said to them, "GO into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 "And these SIGNS (translated miracles 23x) will FOLLOW THOSE WHO BELIEVE: In MY NAME they will CAST OUT DEMONS; they will speak with new tongues; 18 "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will LAY HANDS ON THE SICK, and they will recover." ... 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the LORD WORKING WITH [THEM] and confirming the word through the ACCOMPANYING SIGNS. Amen.

MARK 11:22-24 NKJV So Jesus answered and said to them, "(YOU) Have faith in God. 23 "For assuredly, I SAY TO YOUWHOEVER SAYS to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in HIS heart, but believes that those things HE says will be done, HE will have WHATEVER HE SAYS. 24 "Therefore I SAY TO YOU, whatever things YOU ASK when YOU pray, believe that YOU receive [them], and YOU will have [them].

JAMES 4:7 NKJV Therefore (YOU) submit to God. (YOU) RESIST THE DEVIL and he will FLEE FROM YOU.

GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Take a few moments to discuss your answers to these questions with the Group.

ICE BREAKER

What is one of the most exciting things happening in your life right now? Why does it excite you?

Why?

2.    In the opening, Pastor set up a scenario where a 15-year-old child has warts.

3.    Describe your thoughts, feelings or impressions of the 3 views mentioned:

  • The believer possess PERMANENT spiritual authority to partner with God for outcomes (Redemptionist View).
  • The believer has TEMPORARY authority for outcomes, contingent on the Holy Spirit’s distribution of gifts/endowments (Charistmatic-Sovereignist View).
  • The believer has NO jurisdiction as God alone CONTROLS every outcome (Cessationist View).

4.    How do these above views (Redemptionist, Charismatic-Sovereignist and Cessationist Views) influence your personal handling of human suffering, difficulties and challenges in the future? Explain why.

5.    How would you answer this opening BIG QUESTION today:  Does God use human agency to fulfill His purposes, OR does God arbitrarily dictate outcomes via His sovereign determination? Explain why.

SESSION 1 - WRAP UP
