It can be scary—having only a few minutes to convey all the news, initiatives, and stories that you want to share with your congregation during a service. But if you think of communicating from stage less as making announcements and more as casting vision, you'll be able to craft stronger, more cohesive communication.

In the video above, Life.Church cluster pastor Tome Dawson breaks down stage communication into three main goals and gives you some practical public-speaking tips.

Three questions to ask yourself about your stage communication:

  1. What do you want people to know?
  2. What do you want people to feel?
  3. What do you want people to do?

You can also be intentional about tone, body language, and pacing. Not everything is funny, and not everything is serious. Be as intentional about how you say things as what you say.

What we've learned:

Any time you're communicating to your attenders, you have an immense opportunity. You can tell them news or facts, or you can take those precious minutes to make an emotional, spiritual impact on them. Create goals for any communication piece-whether it's a Facebook post, a stage announcement, or a written letter-have a specific feeling and action in mind that you'd like to relay to your attender.
